November 2, 2009:
Words & Pics.      Old Soundtrack! magazine interview is up now, and pictures from it will be put up later this week.

October 24, 2009:
Finally, a squeek.      GSA Music (who currently represent Newman) is listing he will be scoring the upcoming sequel film, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel".

Completely misused talent.

July 5, 2009:
Two Comin'      Newman is scoring the third Scooby Doo movie (going straight to TV):
"Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins".

Also for the same director (with whom he has worked before) he is scoring the upcoming film, "The Spy Next Door".

March 20, 2009:
Malone Going Bye-Bye      The limited edition of "Malone" released by Intrada Records, is being deleted from their catelogue; it's not "selling out", but rather the sales were just so bad they are getting ride of it and not pressing anymore (if they didn't press the full limited amount), so if you want this, NOW is the time to get it.  Here are two purchase links:

Screen Archives Entertainment

Direct From Intrada Records

You have until Arpil 7th, so no dilly dallying!

February 10, 2009:
Done With Crazy      New audio interiew -- with some fascinating factoids -- is up at ScoreNotes (check the end of the Interviews page).

During the interview Newman states "Crazy On the Outside" is DONE.  He also shows some confusion as to how many Newman children there are, but that's okay since there are a lot of them.

December 27, 2008:
That IS the Spirit...      Just a few days after Amazon.com showed it's CD-R for "The Spirit", it was announced Silva Screen Records will be releasing -- in January -- a pressed CD; it s unknown whether the contents will be the same or different, but one would hope for a longer CD.

"Crazy On the Outside" is orchestra has been contracted, so it should record fairly soon.

And, if curious, thanks to an FSM member called SBD (who runs the Alan Silvestri/James Newton Howard sites/forums), I have the tracklist for the Amazon CD-R up -- sans the time for one cue, which he accidently left off.

December 16, 2008:
That's NOT the Spirit...      Newman's scorefor the upcoming film, "The Spirit", is being released December 23rd, but it's another one of those Amazon.com "CD-R"s, so I guess this will mean the complete score, but it also means with shipping you will be paying about $23.00 for a CD-R.  HERE is the pre-order link.

Their CD-Rs are, quote: "... manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media.".  I wasn't aware you had to manufacture a CD-R, 'cause all this time I was just buying blanks ones, popping them into the burner, and having them spit out a minute later.  I guess I'm a manufacturer!

Well, I am not paying for a CD-R, so if you get it and want to make me a copy, I can offer things in return.

Perserverence Records will be releasing his score to "The Runestone" early next year.

November 4, 2008:
More Newman, augh augh augh!      Tim allen is directing his own movie which began shooting not too long ago and he's chosen Newman as the composer (I guess he liked "Galaxy Quest").  "Crazy On the Outside" is a 2009 film.

November 3, 2008:
Ho, Ho, Ho.      To quote well-known late night American talk show host Conan O'Brian, "Jingle All the Way"; why is this relevent?  Newman's score for the film has officially been released by Newman-friendly Intrada Records.

Even though there's been no news, "My Life In Ruins"; has also been recorded; why this and "The Spirit" have still no owrds on CD released, one can only wonder.

October 1, 2008:
That's the Spirit!      Newman's score for "The Spirit" has been recorded.

August 25, 2008:
Newman Conducting      If you hurry and get tickets and fly to LA, you can catch Newman conducting films scores.  Read more HERE.

August 7, 2008:
That's the Spirit      The orchestra for "The Spirit" has been contracted; I don't know if it's started scoring (or even scored) yet.
Yeah, I'm excited too.  I know, it's not really much in the way of news, but it been a slow couple of months.

June 9, 2008:
Signed, David Newman      You can win autographed copies of "Ice Age" and "Serenity" in the contest described in this thread HERE.

More news coming later...

May 21, 2008:
No, Really (again!)      Just 21 days after telling you he was scoring a new movie, I'm back to tell you he's scoring another one:  "The Spirit".  The Frank Miller film; it will of course suck, but here's hoping for a big, good, Newman score.

Two films in one year ... can we hope for a third and maybe another CD release from Intrada Records?

May 3, 2008:
No, Really      He's scoring a new movie:  "My Life in Ruins".  I guess the director didn't like the compsoer before Newman on "How To Loose A Guy In 10 Dates".

It's another comedy, thankfully not staring Eddie Murphy.  As all the main cast.

March 29, 2008:
Damn      The "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins" CD contains NO score.  Shit.

March 23, 2008:
GONE      "Matilda" is SOLD OUT.  Sorry.

March 1, 2008:
500 Left...      Fewer than 500 copies of the just released last month on the 25th Varese Sarabande CD Club CD "Matilda" are left.  HURRY.

February 12, 2008:
New Work      I don't know where, but in May Newman will be premiering a new work for solo clarinet (Gary Bovyer playing) and orchestra.
